How Secure Flight affects you

When passengers travel, they will be required to provide the following Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) to their airline when making a reservation:

• Name as it appears on government-issued I.D. used when traveling
• Date of Birth
• Gender
• Redress Number (if available)

What are the benefits of Secure Flight?

Secure Flight makes travel safer by more effectively identifying individuals who may pose a known or suspected threat to aviation. It also enables officials to address security threats sooner. Furthermore, by creating one watch list matching system, it helps prevent the misidentification of passengers who have names similar to individuals on government watch lists. Additionally, Secure Flight offers an improved redress process, so that those who are mistakenly matched to the watch lists can avoid further problems in the future.

Redress - for passengers who feel they have been misidentified

Those who believe they have been mistakenly matched to a name on the watch list are invited to apply for redress through the Department of Homeland Security Traveler Redress Inquiry Program (DHS TRIP). Secure Flight uses the results of the redress process in its watch list matching process to help prevent future misidentifications for passengers who may have a name that is similar to an individual on the watch list. • Tips for traveling: Be sure to bring the appropriate government-issued identity document (ID) when flying. An acceptable form of ID could include an unexpired passport issued by a foreign government; an unexpired document issued by a U.S. federal, state, or tribal government that includes the individual's full name, date of birth, photograph; or other documents that TSA may designate as valid verifying identity. • Complete the DHS TRIP application process if you believe you were mistakenly identified as a match to the watch list. By doing so, you can help prevent future misidentifications and delays at the airport.
• Arrive at the airport with ample time to check in before your flight. For most individuals, Secure Flight will expedite the check-in process by reducing misidentifications, but some passengers may need to check in at the ticket counter and provide identification to proceed with check in.
