Mission and Goals

Secure Flight Program

As part of TSA's layered approach to aviation security and in accordance with Section 4012 of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 (IRTPA), TSA will assume from aircraft operators the comparison of passenger information to information contained in the Federal terrorist watch lists.The mission of the Secure Flight program is to enhance the security of domestic and international commercial air travel in the United States through the use of improved watch list matching. The program's goals are to:

• Identify known and suspected terrorists;
• Prevent individuals on the No Fly List from boarding an aircraft;
• Subject individuals on the Selectee List to enhanced screening to determine if they are permitted to board an aircraft; and
• Facilitate passenger air travel

The goals of the Secure Flight program are to enhance the security of commercial air travel, protect the privacy of the traveling public and provide consistent support across aircraft operators.
