On Saturday morning, March 8th, a Transportation Security Officer (TSO) at the San Diego International Airport thought he saw something suspicious while a colleague screened the checked bag of a passenger. Based on that suspicion, this TSO notified his chain of command and ultimately, TSA management in San Diego notified local law enforcement authorities.
Based on this sequence of events, a probationary TSO has been taken into custody as the incident is investigated by local law enforcement and TSA authorities.
The TSA has placed the officer in question on indefinite suspension pending the outcome of the investigation and he been taken into custody by the San Diego Harbor Police.
TSA is committed to swift action when allegations of theft occur, and will do all we can to seek prosecution of employees found to have broken the trust of the American traveling public.
This incident in no way reflects the great majority of the 43,000 hard working officers working 24/7, coast to coast.
