News & Happenings
November 30, 2007
Despite record numbers of travelers this Thanksgiving holiday season, average wait times at the nation's busiest airports rarely exceeded 13 minutes. From Thursday, November 15th through Monday, November 26th, more than 17 million passengers were screened at checkpoints in the nation's top 40 airports nationwide. The average peak wait times during this period actually decreased from last year.
By working together, transportation security officers and the traveling public were able to quickly and efficiently navigate security checkpoints. More importantly, their efforts allowed TSA to continue to provide the highest level of security, while maintaining manageable wait times.
TSA is grateful for the support and cooperation shown by those traveling over the holiday. We know that travel can be stressful this time of year and appreciate that passengers came prepared and were willing to work with our security officers. We also want to acknowledge our officers who once again showed they are up to the challenge of providing a high level of security during the busiest travel period of the year.
