TSOs from Austin-Straubel (Green Bay, Wis.) International and Outagamie County (Appleton, Wis.) airports recently enjoyed a unique opportunity to meet nearly 70 of the 109 living Congressional Medal of Honor recipients who were honored at the National Congressional Medal of Honor Society Convention in Green Bay.
"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet these great Americans," said Dave Kedzior, lead TSO at Austin-Straubel.
The Congressional Medal of Honor, established in 1861, is the highest military award given for valor in combat.
TSOs greeted each arriving honoree at the gate and provided expedited screening at departure. Some chose to use their break time to meet the veterans.
Activities for the veterans included a tour of northeast Wisconsin, breakfast on a farm, a concert, and a black tie dinner held in their honor. They also spoke at local schools and were introduced at a Packers-Philadelphia Eagles football game at Packer Stadium, where they signed autographs.
