TSA Statement on Phoenix Incident

A checked bag belonging to a passenger traveling on Mesa Airlines from Eugene, Oregon, began smoking while being transferred onto a connecting US Airways flight in Phoenix. Firefighters responded and extinguished the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Local law enforcement, bomb squad, canine and fire department is on scene. The passenger who owns the bag is currently talking to law enforcement.
At this time there is no indication of any nexus to terrorism.
