Security Officers Detect Explosive Residues At Checkpoint

News & Happenings

August 17, 2006

Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) put their unique bomb appraisal training to work on Thursday at the Huntington, W.Va. airport, discovering explosive residues on two containers of liquid a passenger was attempting to bring through the security checkpoint.

While viewing the X-ray image of a carry-on bag, TSOs Joshua Messinger and Clifford Barker identified a liquid substance and quickly requested a bag search. The bag search revealed four liquid items in violation of TSA's current ban on liquids and gels, imposed last week due to the heightened security level.

In today's threat environment, TSOs are a viable layer of security to defend against the threat of terrorism. Law enforcement continues to investigate the incident.
