Richard G. Finney, a cargo inspector at Nashville International Airport, was recently awarded the Bronze Star by the U.S. Air Force for "exceptionally meritorious" service during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Finney, a technical sergeant, performed over 200 combat security missions and logged over 2,500 miles in the Mosul area, helping sustain critical life support operations for the Mosul Public Service Academy in 2006.

Finney was recognized for performing "superbly" during two small arms attacks, and was "instrumental" in the graduation of more than 1,500 Iraqi police officers, the safe return of U.S. personnel and overall combat effectiveness of the detachment.

"We are very proud of Rick and his accomplishments that led to this great honor bestowed by our president," said Acting FSD Ken Meyer. "We are elated to have him as a member of Nashville's team."

In March 2002 Finney joined TSA as a mobile screening force supervisor and helped oversee the rollout of screening operations at several airports. Before becoming a cargo inspector, he was a screening manager at Nashville.
