Inscribed on the wall of the Transportation Security Operations Center, known as the TSOC, as you enter, is the quote, “The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.” A single structure was built to house two operations centers – the TSOC and the Mission Operations Center, or MOC for the FAMS. Behind these concrete walls are dozens of trained FAMS and TSA personnel – command duty officers and watch officers – all monitoring and helping to direct the operational tempo that is carried out across the aviation sector worldwide. It is these operations centers that function like the veins of a human body – they are the lifeline for the FAMS on missions worldwide, and for the relaying of critical information for FSDs and TSA headquarters officials.
We often don’t stop to applaud the work of those who provide the backbone to our organization. In this past week, I am reminded yet again of the tremendous dedication to duty, pride, and concern for their fellow employees that you, the men and women of the TSOC and MOC, demonstrate. These men and women train frequently, and the TSOC created its fourth shift for rapid deployment in critical incidents. Exercises occur often to test crucial protocols during the daily hub of activity. But this past week, just as during Hurricane Katrina last year and the evacuation from Cyprus last month, these men and women in the operations centers, perform their duties quietly but effectively.
The TSOC and the MOC represent the epitome of the TSA network in action.
I wanted to express my personal thanks to all of you at the TSOC and in the MOC. You are a credit to our organization. You recognize the importance of being well-prepared and well informed. You recognize the value in continuous training for the inevitable critical event. And you care.
In the course of daily business, we often don’t stop to applaud the work of those who provide the backbone to our organization. In this past week, I am reminded yet again of the tremendous dedication to duty, pride, and concern for their fellow employees that you, the men and women of the TSOC and MOC, demonstrate. I thank you and I applaud you for the state-of-the-art capability you provide to me, to the leadership of TSA and the FAMS, and to our stakeholders around the world.
