At approximately 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, a male individual circumvented security at the TSA checkpoint serving Terminal 3 at JFK International Airport. As a precautionary measure, TSA immediately ceased screening operations at this checkpoint and coordinated with Port Authority police.

After an immediate search for the individual was conducted without positive results, the decision was made to halt operations at this terminal. Passengers in Terminal 3 were instructed to exit the area for re-screening and the terminal was completely evacuated. Any time an event of this nature occurs, TSA's top priority is to make certain that individuals in this area do not pose a threat to the aircraft. To positively ensure this, the evacuation and re-screening of passengers is necessary.

At 7:58 Terminal 3 was reopened and passenger re-screening began. TSA continues to coordinate with Port Authority Police and other law enforcement partners to attempt to locate the individual.
