Prohibited Items

In the first half of 2006, TSA's 43 thousand transportation security officers have collected more than 8 million prohibited items, some of those items shown here, such as knives and lighters.TSA screens nearly two million passengers each day at 450 U.S. airports.

In the first half of 2006, TSA's 43 thousand transportation security officers have collected more than 8 million prohibited items. If you bring a gun, knife or other weapon to the security checkpoint, you may be subject to a civil penalty. Penalties for a loaded firearm can be up to $7500.

It adds an extra 2-3 minutes to the screening process every time a Security Officer detects a prohibited item at the checkpoint, impacting the wait times for everyone.

On occasion, a Security Officer will find an item that may be in question -- our officers are given discretion in those cases and will err on the side of caution.
