Statement On A Suspicious Item Identified At Miami International Airport

WASHINGTON, D.C – At approx 12:10 p.m., Transportation Security Officers at Miami International Airport identified a suspicious item in a passenger’s checked baggage.

The bag was located inside an explosive detection system, or EDS, located in Concourse G. The Miami-Dade bomb squad responded at 12:58 p.m., and established a safe zone around the bag that included Concourses F and G security checkpoints.

At 1:07 p.m. the bomb squad made the determination that the item did not pose a threat to aviation and operations at Miami returned to normal.
